Volunteering: Remember to renew your volunteer status with DPS. Remind the other parents in your room to do this as well. They will need to complete this in order to chaperone groups on field trips.

Rules regarding gifts and money collection: NC government employees (teachers included) are limited to the value of gifts that they can receive from an individual. The federal limit is up to $25. If a group of parents contribute to a gift card the value can be higher. An exception can be made if the gift card is being used to purchase classroom supplies. In that case, the value can be much higher but the teacher should provide receipts.

- Food needs to be approved by the principal in advance. Technically, you should sign-in food when entering the main office. (As long as you’re planning with your teacher, considering food sensitivities and allergies, and keeping everything mostly healthy you don’t need to contact the principal directly.)
- You can serve peelable whole fruits and vegetables, pre-washed unpeelable whole fruits or vegetables, bottled water, pre-packaged or catered meals that meet all applicable food and sanitation requirements. (Examples: Chick-fil-a nuggets, catered pizza or sandwiches, cheese sticks, trail mix, popcorn, granola bars, grapes, applesauce, graham crackers, pretzels, baby carrots, etc.)
- No soft drinks or sweetened beverages, water is encouraged (juice boxes are fine).
